Burn Baby Burn

New year and new challenges!
I hope all of you guys had a terrific Christmas and New Years even though the absence of snow tried to kill all the holiday spirit. At least mine. I'd have been the grumpiest person on this planet if I didn't get all that yummy Christmas food. So I thank my family for that! :D
Turning this into some kind of Thanksgiving speech, I'm also thankful for all of the presents I got. Especially a couple of the kitchen tools, which were a total surprise to me.

Uusi vuosi ja uudet kujeet!
Toivottavasti kaikilla teillä oli mahtava joulu sekä uusi vuosi, vaikka lumi yritti poissaolollaan pilata juhlafiiliksen. Ainakin minun osalta. Olisin ollut planeetan ärtynein ihminen, ellen olisi saanut kaikkia niitä taivaallisia jouluruokia. Joten kiitän perhettäni siitä! :D
Teen tästä kunnon kiitospäivä puheen, sillä olen hyvin kiitollinen myös lahjoista, joita sain.
Erityisesti muutamasta keittiötyövälineestä, jotka olivat täsi yllätys minulle.

This one is my favorite! (and it even matches my Kitchen Aid ;)) I've been looking for a affordable mini blowtorch for a while now so I could try my hand at crème brûlées, toasted meringues and whatnot. By the way, if any of you guys have more info about the desserts/food I could use this on it would be awesome and I'd appreciate that a lot!
//
Tämä on suosikkini! (ja se jopa sopii väriltään yhteen mun Kitchen Aidin kanssa ;)) Olen yrittänyt etsiä kohtuuhintaista mini puhalluslamppua jo jonkin aikaa, jotta voisin kokeilla taitojani crème brûléessä, paahdettavissa marengeissa ym. Kertokaa muuten ihmeessä, jos teiltä löytyy enemmän tietoutta jälkiruuista/ ruuista, missä voisin käyttää tätä työkalua!

This one got a few chuckles from me after I unwrapped it but now I'm just excited to test it if it really works. It would help me tremendously because I'm terrible at peeling apples :D Not that I make apple dishes every single day and need to peel millions of apples, but every once in a while it's nice to have a bit of extra help when u need it. :)
//

Crème Brûlée

  • half a vanilla pod
  • 3,3dl (1 1/3 cup) cream
  • 1dl (2/5 cup) milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2dl (1/5 cup) sugar
  • fine cane sugar on top

Start by measuring cream and milk into a small pot. Slice the vanilla pod open and scratch off the seeds. Then throw those seeds and the pod into the cream mixture. Keep the pot on low heat until it bubbles for the first time. Meanwhile mix the egg yolks and sugar lightly in a bowl.
When the cream mixture has reached its boiling point, slowly it in with egg yolks and mixing it constantly. Do not whip it too much so it doesn't create foam.
Pour it into the ramekins through a sieve.
Put those ramekins into a deep oven dish and place them on the lowest point in the oven. Pour just enough water into the bigger oven dish so the the water level reaches halfway up on those ramekins.
Cook them for about 20-25mins so that they look clotted but not hard. Let them cool down and then settle down in a fridge for 2-3 hours.
Just before serving, sprinkle some of that cane sugar on top of them and lightly roast the surface with the blowtorch so they get a beautiful golden brown color.

Crème Brûlée

  • puolikas vaniljatanko
  • 3,3dl kermaa
  • 1dl maitoa
  • 4 keltuaista
  • 1/2dl sokeria
  • hienoa ruokokidesokeria pinnalle

Easiest and the yummiest dessert for busy chicsters!

Hi folks!
Today's post is going to be short since I've been very busy with my Christmas cakes and chocolate boxes. Don't mind about the shortness because this is one of my personal favorites and doesn't even need too much preparations!

Chocolate fondant (3 pieces)
50g (1,8oz) Butter
50g (1,8 oz) Dark chocolate
1/2dl (0,2 cup) Flours
2 Eggs
3/4 dl (0,3 cup) Sugar

Start by greasing up 3 small cups. My tip is to cut little squares of greaseproof paper to put in the bottom so the fondant comes off easier. Go ahead and melt the chocolate and the butter together in a microwave or on the stove. In the meanwhile, whisk the eggs and sugar together into a fluffy foam. Carefully add the flours and mix it by lifting the batter back and forth, not too much of stirring! Then add the chocolate mix into the batter and mix it in a same way as earlier. Pour the batter into the cups and leave about 1cm (0,5 inch) empty so the fondant doesn't overflow when in the oven. Bake fondants for 10 mins, 185°C (365 F) with a convection mode or 190-195°C (374-383 F) with a normal oven mode. You can eat the fondant straight from the cup or pop it on the plate. Run a knife around the edges oft the cup to make sure the fondant doesn't stick to the cup when flipping it on the plate. Remove the little square from the bottom , add some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream to the side and enjoy! :)
After a long day, this really cheers me up and hopefully it does the same to your day! Till next time chicsters!

Ps. If you wanna make some extras and save them for later, just go ahead and put them into the fridge or freezer. When in the fridge, just add 2 more minutes for the baking time (=12 mins). If in the freezer, add 2 more on the fridge time (=14 mins). :)
